Sedation dentistry

Sedation is an excellent way to help kids fight back against feelings of anxiety and fear. We offer minimal sedation with laughing gas, which is one of the safest and most effective ways to sedate children of all ages. Schedule an appointment now to see if sedation is right for your child.

Laughing Gas Sedation For Kids

At our office, we recommend laughing gas sedation for most kids. Laughing gas does not require any needles or pills, and is delivered through a comfortable nose mask. Your child will simply inhale through the mask, and their pediatric dentist will send a stream of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen through the mask.

As your child breathes in this gas, they will begin to feel more comfortable and relaxed. The gas takes effect immediately, reducing feelings of anxiety, fear, and pain. Your child will feel happy and euphoric, which makes it a lot easier to get the care they need.

One great benefit of laughing gas sedation is that it wears off quickly and has mild side effects. The gas wears off after about 5 minutes, so you and your little one can get back to your daily routines immediately after your appointment.

Laughing gas can be an excellent choice for kids with dental anxiety, a fear of needles, or a sensitive gag reflex. We would be happy to chat with you to see if this option is a good fit for your child. Schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified pediatric dentists.

Other Sedation Options

While we prefer to use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation at Timber Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics, we can also offer a variety of other sedation options upon request. This includes pill or liquid-based oral sedation and IV sedation, which can help your child sleep through their appointment and forget most of what happens during their procedure.

We even can offer general anesthesia. In this method of sedation, your child will be totally unconscious and won’t feel anything or remember anything that happens during their procedure. However, this is usually reserved for major oral surgeries, since the process is more complex and expensive, and requires the use of a ventilator to help your child breathe.
